The department of music at the University of Liverpool enjoys a robust partnership with the The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. The orchestra provides workshops for undergraduate students, coachings of undergraduate performance scholarship recipients, and postgraduate recording sessions and performances. The University has developed a special relationship with the orchestra's new music ensemble, Ensemble 10/10, who has headlined the opening night of the Open Circuit festival since its inception and performs music by staff in a variety of venues.
The centre has worked with FACT on a variety of projects, including producing projects with staff and a recent a concert of the centre's postgraduate composers writing music for a silent film which was performed live in Open Circuit 2016 with musicians from the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. Upcoming projects include a show which will be the result of a collaboration with University of Liverpool composers and Liverpool John Moores University visual artists.
The Pixels Ensemble, a collective of chamber music players with a shared passion for performing repertoire from the classical period to the present day, works with the University of Liverpool on producing unique chamber music comcerts with technology at a variety of venues, including the Open Circuit Festival.
